Ruth Kempson as a Gricean

• Kempson, R. (1988b) "Logical form: The grammar-cognition interface." Journal of Linguistics 24: 393-431.

ANYONE studying the origin of Gricean Studies in England should focus on Prof. Wilson and Prof. Kempson. They completed their respective PhDs almost at the same time, and both on "non-truth-conditional" aspects of things.

Kempson quoted Grice a lot in her PhD, which was published as a book with Cambridge University Press.

While Wilson, after her American sojourn, settled in UCL (she had studied at Nuffield as an undergraduate), Kempson settled in a different district of the same university. (King's). This led Laurence Horn to speak of the "London School" of Griceanism.

Etc.
