Elizabeth Bates died of pancreatic cancer. Someone should search in her work for all occurrences of "Grice", since she was such a master. It would be a good start for a more-or-less serious research on the use of Grice by theorists of 'developmental pragmatics' ('language acquisition' at that level. The debate has been resumed of late.
