Grice or the Syntax of Illusion

Grice (or his ghost) has a folder, deposited at the Univ. of Berkeley/Library (Yes, one shouldn't SAY "univ of Berkeley" but I want to sound parochial) entitled,

"The syntax of illusion"

It's about his joint work with Sir Geoffrey Warnock on stuff like:

"It seems to me as though there may be a pillar-box just in front of me which may look red to me."

"It IS red"

"I never said it wasn't"

------

Hacker ignored all this and called HIS BOOK, Insight and illusion. I would have called it "Illusion and insight", since the latter came latter.
