The evolution of meaning

--- however boring -- may do better as a term, to discuss Grice, than the pompous, 'evolution of language'. These days, nobody reads a scientific article ("political correctness has made scientific writing unsufferable", says A. C. Douglas). KEYWORD: evolution of language.
--- After all, in a reactionary bit in "Reply to Richards", Grice does grant that Schffer is right and that M-intentions are too complex to occur in a 'creature deprived with language'.
Etc. So a baby doesn't mean. So the dog doesn't mean. Etc.
