This was perhaps the apter simile by G. P. Baker (another American refugee in Oxford, like Schiffer -- but this one with _tenure_ -- and at St. John's, too).
Chapman spoils the simile somehow when she has the first or second ch. of her best-selling, "Grice: The Man Behind the Conversation" (re-edited as "Grice, and His Implicatures") as
"Grice, the Skilful Heretic"
-- for there's little heresy in Grice. Not for nothing, as my friends say, he is called, Jesus Grice Almighty!
--- Etc.
