Grice speaks frequently of himself as a Designer (of pirots), needing to keep track with the Engineer: "Why, the man is supposed to bring to life what I'm just sketching on boards". This may connect with Dawkins. His 'gene', selfish or not, seems to be a matter of hardware (not software). As per wiki:
"The gene [critics to Dawkins argue] could be better described as a unit of evolution − of the long-term changes in allele frequencies in a population."
Pirots gaggle, and they are very "allele", etc. Their genomes is not really something they can do much about, unless they become geneticists, and start eugenics... I have to end with "!". What's the good of a blog if it ain't gonna be fun?
