Wagner for Children

----- By J. L. S.
---------

IN CASE WE HAVE AN OPERATIC interlude, I did post to this blog Glasgow-born "working-class" (they told me) background Geo Richardson's obit of Grice for the College Records at St. John's -- I forget what title for blog post. But it's the full text, the three pages of so, which I have not seen cited in print (much). Richardson has the ability to misreport. I mean, I love the late economist, but one wonders. He has Grice saying that Meistersinger was Wagner 'for children', and he may have been right. But one wonders the implicature, or the tone. Perhaps one feels childish at times and wants to engage? (Having _just_ seen Much-ado-about-nothing, I can relate! Shakespeare for children, almost, but still a delight...) Anyway.
