Grice was amusing hisself and others when he granted that philosophers were possibly onto something when they spoke in Greek of
semeion phusikon
'naturale signum'. Similarly when they speak of _other_ type of signs which they dub, "artificial".
"One may just as well call them 'artifactual'".
