The Gricean Princess

S. R. Chapman, where "S" stands for an Irish female name, interviewed Judy Baker, for her bio of _Grice: The man behind the implicature_. Chapman was surprised at something Baker was surprised that did NOT surprise me:

(words):

"Grice was so into my thesis" -- he was Baker's thesis advisor at UC/Berkeley -- "that I sometimes feared he would take my thesis more seriously than I did".

No such luck with _my_ thesis advisor. He couldn't spell "Grice".

Ah well.

"La principessa filosofia, o sia, il contravveleno" is a little opera with
score by Andreozzi to a libretto by Sografi. It premiered in Venezia, but soon
made its way to the Regio Teatro nel Mercato di Fieno (H. Majesty's Theatre,
Haymarket) where it opened on May 5 1801 "[to] universal applause" with
Signora Vinci as the aforementioned principessa.
