--- But of course the only COUNTY that interested him was Oxon. He played for the North Oxford Cricket Club, so what more can you ask.
When in Berkeley he would often wear the club's ties, and was offended when the locals would misinterpret them for "bits of strings" (it's true he used them as suspenders, but surely the case compares with "the use of a firearm").
As a tutor in Oxford, Grice educated, let me remember,
5,687 students
-- all in English!
He would seldom instill on them his own views. Why, he was busy enough fighting with them -- "his views".
He published little and cared less. But _others_, notably over-achievers like Sir Peter (as he then wasn't) Strawson, were always behind him, _boring_ him (I love Strawson). Grice enjoyed talking with friends most: Warnock, Pears, Thomson, Urmson, Hampshire, and, from a distance, Austin.
"They were all English, my friends". He made friends with furriners, too, and "the effect was, in parts, exhilarating."
He fails to explicate what the _other_ parts were.

Ah, can't find that private email you sent. Anyway, I would recommend you look in the Blogger settings and up the number of posts that each page has, as you post so frequently, it would, I believe, be an improvement to this blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat an excellent suggestion, Kennedy!
ReplyDeleteI'll resend the private e-mail as you call it. It's something the Blogger allows, so I'll press the "Invite author" thing.
-- Yes, I'll look at no. of posts per page, too.
And the good thing for when you post (sic: for when -- surely we do need a preposition that explicatures the right combo) is that you will have to explicature that it's coming from _you_. In the first or second line. It's silly on the part of the Blogger system that author of post is only credited in the last line ceteris paribus and out of the context or body of the message itself.
---- Etc.

Jason: I looked in the settings and you _are_ allowed to post as author. So I cannot invite you again! (If that's the private e-mail you were talking about). Cheers. And do post as author. It can be _very_ fun (or much fun, take you pick. It can actually be both, and should).
