Abstract:I give a historical introduction to the philosophy of language after Frege's main tenets regarding his conception of sense. I show, therefore, the main lines of some fields of research which either develop or contrast Frege's ideas: (1) the theory of force (Austin) and Grice's conversational implicatures, (2) the causal theory of (direct) reference in Kripke and Putnam, (3) model theory and the concept of sense as truth condition from Wittgenstein and Carnap, (4) the topic of holism in Quine and Davidson, (5) the theory of meaning as justification (Dummett and Brandom).
