Grice considers (PPQ, vol. 67, p. 8)
a 'boring ascent':
'meet' dyadic: Ayer met with Carnap.
'meet' tridic: Ayer met with Carnap and Quine.
'meet' tetradic: Ayer met with Carnap and Quine and Witters.
----
Grice symbolises this as:
----- " ... met ..."
versus
----- " ... met ... and ... "
----
This surely does not make 'meet' ambiguous. The ontology remains the same:
"The meeting might be a single item (relation or action) which holds, variably, [for] n persons" -- "depending on how many people meet".
