Abstract of Harman's review of book by Grice

"In 'Aspects of Reasons', H. P. Grice usefully discusses when a particular argument or proof can be attributed to someone. He describes mood or embedded "mode" operators that may have some importance for philosophy of language and linguistics, especially if these operators can be shown to be connected with more usual classifications of embedded clauses into tensed "that" clauses and tenseless infinitive clauses. And he proposes to account for relational interpretations of modals in terms of contextual selection of certain sorts of systems of principles in a manner reminiscent of Roger Wertheimer's 'Significance of Sense: Meaning, Modality, and Morality'."
