Figurative uses of 'phren' and Grice's aspects of reasoning

Speranza

The first time 'schizophrenia' was used in English -- thus ending in -ia, rather than, as in the vernacular German, in -ie -- was in "The Lancet" of Dec. 21 1912, 1730/1.

The anonymous writer notes:

"This little volume is a translation
of a series of articles by Professor
Bleuler
which appeared...
during 1910 and 1911, in which
he ADVANCES a theory of the
negativism so frequently met
with in "dementia praecox" or schizophrenia."
