griceista

J:

"there appears to be a difference between Platonism with big, upper case P , and platonism, lower case p. It would probably take a Hillary Putnam to point out the subtle differences"

Oddly, in most romance languages, there is no difference between, say, Romance and romance, platonic and Platonic, or for that matter, Aristotelian and aristotelian. Even the days of the weeks they refuse to capitalise: monday, tuesday, wednesday. Ditto for the names of the months.

I suppose this is revenge from the old days of the Roman Empire where EVERYTHING WAS CAPITALISED as anyone who's seen those lugubre Roman inscriptions in Rome may testify:

"LASCIATE OGNI SPERANZA VOI CH'ENTRATE" and stuff.

---

So, if you read Abbagnano on Grice, say, in "Storia della filosofia moderna", you may find things like:

"Followers of Grice are called griceistas. It has to be noted that griceanism is not in itself perverse even if their followers are."
