Grice on Theory-Theory

Grice, as a good Grecian, overregarded 'theoria' as the greatest intellectual achie
vement of humanity (at least Greek humanity). Vision was overrated by the Greeks. And later, the Romans, but they also liked a blood-and-sand fight in the colisseum.

Too many of our current idioms involve vision even when they shouldn't.

"I see you are not singing it", Alice remarked.

Humpty retorted: "Then you have better eyes than most."
