"My wife is either in the garden or in the kitchen"

This my note on Chapman on p. 108. Of course it's Grice's example in 1961 that he cared to omit in the WoW reprint. But I treasure the laughter of my logic students -- I think Adrian Elder included -- when I was considering the case, and drew on the board -- not a black one -- a blueprint for a little cottage where the door communicating to the garden from the kitchen has the wife _lying_ there.

So,

"Either in the garden or in the kitche -- if not both"

It wasn't my idea!
