Of course there's no such thing - as 'endless conversation', as I wrote in my margin to Chapman.
But what _is_ 'candour', as used by Grice cited by Chapman, p. 99. Perhaps some etymythological reflections should be in order.
Grice writes of 'candour' as being promoted by conversational guidelines. I think the Romans meant by this something different as (sic) the English!
