Speranza
On the feast of Corpus Christi 1938 Anscombe first met Peter Thomas Geach, a Lower-Chelsea-born philosopher.
They were both attending a Corpus Christi procession at the Servite priory at Begbroke.
Geach had just been received as a Catholic and Anscombe went up to "congratulate" him.
Geach, under the impression that Anscombe was someone else, proposed to her.
Whatever the source of the misunderstanding, Geach and Anscombe soon became devoted to one another and became engaged later in 1938.
Geach and Anscombe were married in 1941 and, when she died, in 2001, she was attended by her husband of sixty years and by four of their seven children.
Anscombe's last intentional act was kissing Geach.
