Zeno Vendler and Sarah Palin: 'refudiate'

Vendler was a genius. Holdcroft discusses his views in "Words and deeds: problems in the theory of speech acts" (Clarendon Press). Vendler notes that when a waiter says,

"Enjoy!"

he cannot mean what he says. For 'enjoy' cannot be uttered in the imperative.

One wonders about Sarah Palin's utterance,

"pls refudiate".

It seems the intent is indeed to coin a blend.

It would be obtuse to utter, 'repudiate!' in the imperative. The minimalisation to a request, via 'pls', serves no effect.

On the other hand,

'refuse!'

or

'refute!'

work perfectly well with the imperative.

By using the blend, Palin was able to instill a volitional (rational) control on something that usually doesn't ('repudiation').
