WE TEND, simplistically, to assume that everything of import about the 'alter ego' is in that paper by Judith Baker on Aristotle on friendship that Grice quotes in his habitual praiseworthy manner (when referring to his beloved tutee) in WoW:PE. But then there's Peacoke. He was a PPE, rather than a Lit. Hum. as Grice himself, and so he is more at ease with English. And so the beautiful 'ego' of the Greeks and the Roman "alter ego" is turned to the more prosaic, "Another I", in one paper. But it's NOT that silly idea by Aristotle on his casual friend... It's deep, philosophical stuff -- of the Buberian kind.
