"Perhaps less true if more beautiful"

Strawson (vide my "Robbing Paul to pay Peter") was unconvinced by most of what Grice wrote. But in "If and -->" he grants: "Hey: Grice's theory may be wrong; still, I would go as far as to grant that it's more beautiful than mine."

Strawson was arguing for the case that

inferrability

is

CONVENTIONALLY implicated by

'-->'

Whereas for Grice it's merely

CONVERSATIONALLY implicated.
