Oxford, Grice, and the OED

My silly marginalia on Chapman, p. 30:

"For the new Oxford philosophers, a suitably rigorous attention to the facts of language was going to be sufficient"

-- best of OED tradition!

Incidentally, and perhaps, alas -- for it brings a prescriptive ring to it all -- due to yours truly -- vide Horn in ADS-L -- 'implicature' made it (to the OED).

  1. Having it made it earlier to Sidonius's Letters -- vide "implicatura" in Lewis/Short, "Latin Dictionary"!
