Twitter Grice

--- by JLS
------ for the GC:

From M. Quinion's cleve "World Wide Words", this week:

"TWITTERPIDITY Dozens of slangy terms have recently been invented
in connection with Twitter, such as twittersphere, twitterrhoea,
twitterer and twitterati - all examples of twitterspeak. Two UK
inventors - an advertising consultant and a retail designer - have
come up with the TWETTLE, a wireless-enabled kettle that sends you
a tweet when it boils. As a result, you could spend an extra minute
or two doing something really useful, instead of impatiently
waiting for the water to boil for that nice cup of tea. I'd guess
the old-fashioned whistling kettle is too low-tech for them?"

Twitter Grice: the use and flout of conversational maxims in Twitter.

twitter-implicature: a nondetachable implicatum as 'tweeted' from the unintended addresee or recipient back to the 'twitter-follower'.

Maxims of Twit. Twitter maxims -- vide Maxims of Blog, only differently.

twitter-mean: an intermediate between full "non-natural" meaning and "Gricean meaning". Cancellable, but not defeasible.

twitter 'twit': a twitter 'tautology': the "same" thing ('tauto') said all over again, in Twitter.

twit-entailed, twit-implicated: as opposed to twit-ed simpliciter ("I twitted you" = I told you. "Did not -- you twit-implied it, rather".

Etc.
