Strands of Meaning

---

A strand,

http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=strand

tells us is a

"fiber of a rope, string, etc.," late 15c..

"It's probably", the source tells us, "from Old French, "estran,""

And thus not a Romance word, because

"it's possibly from a Germanic source -- akin to Old High German, 'streno', a lock, tress, strand of hair, and Middle Dutch 'strene', German Straehne "skein, strand"".

"Of unknown origin."

So, how are strands interweaved?

Strand I
Strand II
Strand III...

Others authors who used 'strand' like this are few. Cicero did not use 'strand' like this. Etc.
