Flew: "the only teachers of philosophy whom I really got to know"

--- by JLS
------- for the GC.

From A. Flew, "Philosophical essays", 1998, p. 191:

"As an undergraduate the only teachers
of philosophy whom I really got to know
were my own tutors in St. John's College:
John Mabbott and Paul Grice."

--- where 'really', on this particular instance, is NOT a trouser word!

----

When S. G. Brown reports this in his "Dictionary of twentieth-century philosophers" he reverses the order: "Education: ... St. John's. Infls: Personal influences include Paul Grice, John Mabbott and Gilbert Ryle."
