Conversational Perversions

I entitled my paper to Jabberwocky, "Conversational Impenetrability", because that was a favourite with Dumpty. To use 'impenetrability' to mean, briefly, 'let's change the topic'.

This is Flew on the egg:

"But nevertheless it was perverse, ill-mannered, and misleading, and it endangered the possibility of linguistic communication, thus wantonly and without explanation to flout the linguistic conventions. (No doubt, like contemporary prophets of 'linguistic dispensation', he regarded such linguistic conventions as 'preposterous restrictions upon free speech'). Furthermore, as academic philologists and people concerned with maintaining and increasing the efficiency of the English language (and others) have urged, what is correct usage in any language group."

But he didn't, and as a Student of Christ Church he should have been MILES more careful! Carroll was not a policising -- he was just a logician having fun with Mill's System of Logic).

'glory' CANNOT mean 'a nice-knock down argument'.

Or not.
