Informatura

--- by JLS
------- for the GC

If Sidonius coined 'implicatura' (which Short/Lewis translate in "Latin Dictionary", confusingly, as 'entanglement') I coin 'informatura'.

The idea is to distinguish some varieties of a kernel Griceian notion. True, he (Grice, not Sidonius) thought that 'influence' was a better word. For we influence when we say "Close the door!" and we don't need to call "Close the door!" informative (although we could), and we influence when we say "The cat sat on the mat".

----

Implicate
implicare

Latin:

implicare
---- implicatum --- that which is implied

implicature: something like 'the implying', the act of 'implying', cfr. 'implicatio'.

informare
----- informatum --- that which one is being informed about.
----- informatura: --- whatever.

Later!
