Grice and Sperry on freedom and personal identity

by JLS
for the GC

Again, to a view of this Doyle-Speranza thing, this reference by Sperry, On Freedom and Personal Identity, should prove interesting vis a vis Grice´s seminar on "Freedom" (cited in the Grice Papers) and his earliest publication, "Personal identity", for Mind 1941.

And while Grice would have nothing to do with "brain", here´s the reference as cited by Chalmers as linked by Doyle:

Sperry, "Consciousness, free will and personal identity",

Grice´s views are more akin to Bradley´s notes on "freedom" as cited by Doyle in his site. Even if Grice cites Bradley derogatorily in WoW:I -- because that was the tradition in which he had been brought up: to dismiss the Oxford neo-Hegelians.
