From unexciting truths to triviality which is threatened

----

In the sub-section "Truth and Validity" (within the section, "Semantics" -- in Vacuous Names --, Grice considers

"the natural language counterparts of valid formulae" to 'express conceptual truths'.

This relates to

"Smeone won't be at this party"

He notes that under a weak reading,

that remark

"Will express a conceptual truth; while my argument [in that section VI] does not demand that the sentence in question express an EXCITING TRUTH, I am not sure that I welcome quite the degree of triviality which is now threatened"!
