Grice's Quandary About Personal Identity

speranza

It all started with Grice's reformulación of a question after a seminar on Hume given by D. F. Pears at. Berkeley.

  1. Grice's use of 'quandary' is an interesting one. It all started when D. F. Pears talked at Berkeley (Grice's territory). Grice reacted to Pears's talk by noting some circularity in Hume's account in the Appendix to the Treatise. The circularity involves the concepts of causation and personal identity. Hence the quandary!
