ReplyDeleteSurely there must be more to "Women are women" than you gloss. If what you say were the ONLY truth, I guess the consequence is that only one who works with "stereotypes" would ever utter such a claim,
"Women are women."

I sort of understood the two intelligent scenarios you provided for "War is war".
I suppose the same can be done for "Women are women". The first 'women' playing a role and the other a different role?
I.e. the first role is just the name of the class, 'women'. The second, the stereotypical attribute (which is conveyed only via implicature -- e.g. 'coquettish'?, say, on occasion?).
Apparently women like a tautology less than a male does. In that "Men are pigs", I bet, gives more google hits than "Men are men -- the world over" of course?
