WE WERE DISCUSSING with J metaphysical arguments and stuff, and Grice notes that transcendental arguments are fine, provided you detect the non-alethic trappings to them.

In any case, Grice mentions 'patriotism' as the source. It is just his example of practical argument. His point is that one's satisfaction with the justice of one's country's cause is not a matter of evidential support.

I agree! Evidential support will lead you ANYWHERE but to the realisation of the justice of one's country's cause. It is different with two's countries's causes.
