HELM is sharing with the club his polemic with a new-critic, and writes:
"in my attempting to see The Waste Land as expressing the torment and contradiction of an intellectual viewing the results of World War One, my comments, it seems to me, reflect the "New Critics" better than yours."
I am reminded of Anthony Close. I don't know much about him, but he seems to have taken Grice seriously into account. The New Critics were responding to Beardsley's 'intentionalist' fallacy, but I think Close has proved that this was NEVER a fallacy in the first place?
