H. P. Grice and G. J. Warnock

G. J. Warnock was born in Leeds, and educated at Winchester. '
Warnock then served with the Irish Guards before entering New College, Oxford, with a classics scholarship.
Warnock was elected to a Fellowship at Magdalen, Oxford.
After spending some time at Brasenose, Warnock returns to Magdalen as a Fellow and tutor in philosophy.
He was later elected to Principal of Hertford, Oxford, where there is now a the "G. J. Warnock Society" and a building named after him.
Warnock was also the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford.
Warnock and his co-editor J. O. Urmson perform an invaluable service to the development of "analytic" or "linguistic" philosophy by preparing for publication the papers of their friend and fellow Oxford linguistic philosopher J. L. Austin.
Warnock married Mary Warnock, a philosophy fellow of St Hugh's, Oxford, and later Baroness Warnock.
He retired to live in Wiltshire.
