Hardie's conversational moves: the twenty-five minutes


“There is another story, which I think I do believe, according to which a a tutee of Hardie’s decides that, the next time a silence develops in one of Hardie’s tutorials, he is not going to be the one to break it.”

“In the next tutorial, after the tutee had finished reading his essay to Hardie, there followed a silence which lasted twenty-five minutes, at which point the tutee could stand it no longer, and said something.”
