Subscripts and Square Brackets -- Parsons's Proposal

--- We have examined elsewhere Parsons's proposal for the use of square brackets in lieu of subscripts. Grice had used the same notation earlier in 1967, and he adds that "Mr. George Myro has made a similar proposal". As it happens, Mr. Myro, who became Professor of Philosophy at Berkeley and in memory of whom the Myro Memorial letures are held at Moses Hall, took great care in distributing details of System G elsewhere -- and dedicate indeed his monumental "Rudiments of Logic" (nothing rudimentary about it) to his esteemed colleague (and colleague chess player).
