The poor "scholarship boy"

Grice was NOT poor, but you know the Oxonian types (Lord Douglas -- Lord Elderly, Lord Borrowmore, Lord Sickert and Lord Camp).

So, when he arrived straight from Clifton (not Harrow or Eton) he was referred to by Ayer and Berlin and Hart as 'a midlands scholarship boy'.

In those days, there were no scholarship 'girls', so 'boy' was NOT sexist!
