Reading of "φ(αj, ..., αk" (Grice in Davidson/Hintikka, p. 125)

The second point in the glossary for the Natural Deduction System that Grice introduces concerns the reading of

φ(αj, ..., αk

as:

"a formula φ containing occurrences of a constant

[of an individual]α, each such occurrence

being either an occurrence of

αj,

or of ...,

or of αk"


(Grice, p. 125).
