Implicatures of Four-Letter Words

From today's World Wide Words, ed. M. Quinion. A reporter:

"[O]ne professor, the editor of the university's English language
journal [in Japan], suddenly banned four letter words, because he had read

but all four letter words, including 'when', 'next', 'time' and
even his own name! ... The edict was withdrawn [before long, though]"
