H. P. Grice on the basic/resultant distinction as applied to 'event' -- and causation

H. P. Grice:

"One way in which a non-basic (i. e. resultant) event E-r may be connected with this or that basic event E-b is CAUSATION."

The resultant event E-r consists in a CAUSAL connection between its subject-item S and this or that basic event E-b."

"This causal connection confers to the resultant event both an event status and a temporal position upon the basic event."
