Footnotes to Grice

Whitehead wrote that metaphysics was footnotes to metaphysics, and he was right!

    The quote, which I referred to in my "Way of Conversation" (cited in the rbjones pdf document) is

    "The safest general characterisation of the European philosophical tradition is that it consists of a series of footnotes to Plato."
