Monosyllabic Philosophers

---- By J. L. Speranza, of the Grice Club
for the Grice Club.

----------------------- SERIOUSLY, how many philosophers are monosyllabic? One can think of Grice and one can think of Kant. In the case of Kant, it's Scots ("Cant", originally). In the case of Grice it was Scots perhaps, or as I prefer, French ("gris", the shade between black and white) or "Anglo-Norman" if you must, but surely not Romance unless you press it hard.

It seems that most philosophers are polysyllabic: think Straw-Son. Think Hei-De-Gger. Think Scho-Pen-Hau-Er.

Etc.
