---------Grice loved Ancient Greece: he knew it by heart and had walked her (For Greece is feminine in Italian) as a freshman (or fresh man if you must).
As he grew old, he would pun on how ancient _Grice_ had turned to. In one of his most moving, but yet sarcastically self-implicatures unburied by Chapman (the Grice editrix) we read:
"Now,
that my tottering feet
are already engulfed
in the rising mist
of antiquity,
I [should?] make all speed
Ere
it reaches, nay, enters
my head."
