The Grice Etymological Dictionary

------------

"Your car has arrived".

It turns out it's the East-End barrow boy and his _thing_.

"Hardly a _car_".

Grice proposed to refer to 'cars' as we know them ("If driving fast cars you like, if old hymns, you like, or me undressed you like") as 'self-propelled cars', to distinguish them from good ol' 'wheeled vehicles, mere', which were the cars as used by the East-End barrow boys.

-------------- A 'retronym' is diachronic when stupid, but smart when not.

"Now, that's a _lovely_ analog watch".

Smart: for there ARE things called _digital_ watches.

There are acoustic guitars, and heterosexuals!
