A tutee attempts to bribe P. L. Gardiner by offering to buy him an expensive dinner -- expecting Gardiner to give him permission for an over-night stay in London -- but neither Urmson nor Grice think that the tutee thereby *means* that Gardiner is to give him permission; he just means Gardiner *to* give him permission.
