Workshop theme: Concept Learning and Reasoning in Conceptual Spaces
The conceptual spaces framework championed by Peter Gaerdenfors (2000, 2014) serves as a mediating approach between the symbolic and the sub-symbolic levels of representation in cognitive architectures. As such, the framework motivates interesting questions about the organization of mental representational structures and processes. Recently, the conceptual spaces approach has been broadened to theoretical and empirical work on the structure of sensory categories, linguistic communication, concept formation, and reasoning. The purpose of this workshop is to bring together philosophers and cognitive scientists to discuss the contemporary applications of conceptual spaces in these domains.
Organizers
The Emmy-Nother Research Group From Perception to Belief and Back Again in Bochum, in particular: Peter Brössel (Bochum), Filippo Vindrola (Bochum) and Nina Poth (Edinburgh).
