I read from the wiki entry on "grisette" vis a vis Holmes' poem, "La Grisette"
"Her early death [i.e. La Grisette's] alluded to in the poem, was not unusual. Many grisettes died of tuberculosis both in real life and in their fictional portrayals."
Which reminds one of Gregory Currie considering J. L. Borges,
"Pierre Menard, author of the Quixote"
-- Currie: "Surely to think that Quixote dies is panegyric. The thing is a book!"
