A Different Animal: Grice's Pirot

Grice thought the pirot was some animal.

The OED, which Grice SHOULD have consulted here, has

'pirot', 'a kind of Crustascean', 'mostly extinct today'.

Grice, however, found the 'pirot' to be related more, to the Lockean 'parot'.

"After all, we want our pirots to talk".

Etc.

  1. Interesting that a pirot is, literally, as my friend would say, a 'kind of Crustascean,' 'mostly extinct today'. If Carnap had known this, would he say that pirots karulise elatically?
