The Call of Nature: Grice on "mean-N" and "mean-NN"

I was recently discussing some Grecian ideas on nature (confused, as often), and we were looking for the classical source of the collocation, 'the call of nature', 'when nature calls'. No: we don't _mean_ BM! (necessarily!) -- was Grice a genius, or what?
